6th grade field trip!!!

I am VERY excited to post that my 6th grade theatre students will have the opportunity to see live theatre this year! On Friday, October 15th, we will travel to our feeder high school, Timber Creek High School to watch their fall show, Still Life with Iris. The play has long been one of my favorite plays so I am especially excited to see their version. There are even a few actors who are in the show whom I taught my first year in Keller! This will be a very "full circle" experience for me.
The performance runs 2 hours and afterwards we will participate in a talkback session with the actors as well as go on a backstage tour of the facilities. We will also eat on campus so each student will need to bring a sack lunch that day. If your student needs to get a sack lunch from the cafeteria, please indicate that on the form and return to me by October 1st so I will know what numbers to give our cafeteria staff.
If you have questions about the field trip, please email me: angie.lindbloom@kellerisd.net
I will be sending home a permission form/informational form tomorrow, Friday, September 24th.

Public Service Announcements are ROUGH!

For the past few weeks in 6th grade theatre, we've been working on PSA's...Public Service Announcements. The students have had a blast and today, for the first time, I got to put makeup on the kids for one announcement. As you can see below, shooting a PSA is rough! These boys' PSA is about bullying. While a bit extreme, the makeup looked great on camera!

Puppet Time!

In 5th grade theatre we've been working on our own scenes incorporating sock puppets! The students were asked to write their own scenes utilizing at least one sock puppet as one of the characters. Many of the groups used more than one puppet and some groups had ALL sock puppet actors! Below you will find 2 pictures of their creations:

Stinky Season

Dear Parents, This blog post is meant to be very tongue in cheek...I posted this same comment on my personal blog and thought you might enjoy this since you are going through this same "season" as I am...happy reading and happy almost Spring Break!

So I commented on my facebook page the other day that my room smelled like feet...to clarify, I meant my CLASSROOM at school. Let's get a few things straight...I was being nice. It smelled more like a boys' locker room that hadn't been cleaned in 2 months during the summer. See, I teach 5th and 6th graders...I love them, they are funny and sweet and stinky all at the same time...but right now, they are really STINKY. It's getting warmer, they're getting hormonal and naturally, they sweat, A LOT.

Sooo, to all you parents of pre-teens, heck, to all you parents out there of anyone 7 years of age or older...invest in some GOOD deoderant for your kid, NOW. Make them wear it and make them reapply often. There's nothing wrong with smelling good...believe me, in a few years they're going to WANT to smell good anyway so might as well make a habit of it now. I have HUGE sense memory (specifically smell) and let's just say my room does not make me want to remember it anytime soon.

Happy hunting...let me know if you find a great coupon for deoderant and I'll pass it along to everyone else:)

With all of the snow, our kiddos are crazy! As we settle into our time together, post-snow, we are working on a variety of projects.
6th grade:
In 6th grade we are finalizing our scenes. We will perform next Monday, February 22nd...feel free to come watch your actor as they make their debut with a partner!
5th grade:
In 5th grade we are finishing up our vocabulary in motion/bingo activities and will soon move on to our Ozma of Oz/Return to Oz project...this will be a rather lengthy but fun project so if you have not filled out the parent permission form online, please follow the link below and fill it out for me please! By filling this out and giving me your "online signature" this will allow your student to view Return to Oz in class!

What have we been up to?

We've been busy in the theatre room at TMIS! Here's what we've been doing...
6th graders have just started to work on their own scenes! I gave them partners and they chose a 4 page scene to work on with that partner. They will block the scene, work out props, costumes and anything else they feel necessary to performing that scene...in a few weeks, we'll perform for our fellow classmates!
I will have a new set of 5th graders on Tuesday! We get to start fresh with get to know you games and the basics of theatre! For all you new parents, here's the link to the parent form in case you want to get a head start!

PAL Team: In PAL team Mrs. Mckenzie and I are switching work groups for a couple of weeks...I will be working on mask-making with my work group!!! I'm so excited! This is one of my favorite things to do with 6th graders!
Mustang Communications: We've been hammering out some videos! We worked on a recycling video, are working with a small group of 5th graders to get a video produced about the dangers of the Alta Vista/Keller Hicks intersection. Up next are a set of videos and the TAKS Toolbox! I'll post some of the videos soon...they are hilarious!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a restful break! As we dig into our more indepth activities this spring, I hope you will ask your students what they are working on in theatre class! The 6th graders are beginning work on scenes: short portions of plays with partners. They will be responsible for memorizing their lines, planning costumes, props and other scenic pieces they might need to perform the scene. These will be in class performances and as we get closer to the "performance date" I'll post dates and times in case you'd like to come watch...that's between you and your student though:).
I have one more week with this group of 5th graders and we are finishing up our time together wtih a digital storytelling lesson. They will have to tell a story on film using no words, a door and 5 feet of space. They will learn to communicate a story: beginning, middle and end, using only camera angles and non-verbal communication!
As always, if you have questions or would just like to come observe what your students are doing in theatre, please feel free to contact me and come on in!!!
